The project titled "Investigation of the Effect of Build Angle on the High-Strain-Rate Compressive Behavior of Ti-6Al-4V Lattice Structures Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion," led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Recep Muhammet Görgülüarslan, a faculty member of our department, has been accepted under the TÜBİTAK 1002 program.

In this project, which commenced in June 2026, the dynamic compressive behavior of Rhombic Dodecahedron (RD) lattice structures will be investigated. These structures are produced using the additive manufacturing method, Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), from the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, which is of critical importance in the aerospace and defense industries.

Within the scope of the study, a methodological gap in the literature will be filled by developing a direction-dependent and highly accurate material model that takes into account the actual spatial build orientation angle of the lattice struts. Thanks to this innovative integrated approach, the analysis of high-speed impact-absorbing, lightweight, and reliable structures under dynamic loads (such as Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar tests) will be carried out in a much more realistic and cost-effective manner.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Recep Muhammet Görgülüarslan and wish him success in this project, which will make significant contributions to our industry and the scientific community!
