Assoc. Prof. Arif Sanlı Ergün, a member of faculty from TOBB ETÜ Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is invited as a visiting professor to work with the research group of Prof. B.T. Khuri-Yakub, from the Department of Electronics Engineering at Stanford University. Prof. Khuri-Yakub's research group has been working on ultrasound applications for approximately 40 years (with more than 550 publications and 94 patents). Especially the MEMS based (capacitive micro-processed) ultrasonic transducer technology developed by the group has been a phenomenal success for the last 20 years. Most recently, on the other hand, the medical applications of this technology are starting to draw attention. These include: Capsule ultrasound display device using MEMS-based transducers are designed in the form of a pill the patients can swallow, in order to provide images of the digestive system through wireless connection. Khuri-Yakub group is working on many exciting projects similar to that one. Our faculty member Arif Sanlı Ergün will be joining Prof. Khuri-Yakub's group in September, as a visiting professor to work on these new imaging and therapy applications of this MEMS based capacitive transducer technology, share his own expertise and experience on these matters, and to gain new insights and experience.
