COURSE CONTENTS

MUST COURSES

TSR 501 Interdisciplinary Design Studio I
The objective of this course is to ensure that the students from different fields comprehensively discuss and study a contemporary design topic in all aspects within the framework of cooperation in the fields of design.   A novel perspective toward design will be developed through an advanced method of analysis within a set-up that supports interdisciplinary team work.

TSR 502 Interdisciplinary Design Studio II
At the second studio course; the interdisciplinary team work of the students from different fields will be continued within the framework of cooperation in the fields of design.

TSR 503 Research Methods
Gaining information about the research methods, research terminology and instruments that could be used for master's degree program researches and the study and discussion of particularly the methods suitable for use in design-related research.   The objective of this course is to improve the concept of ethics in scientific research and to provide experience in design-related scientific research.

ELECTIVES

TSR 504 Design Critics and Aesthetics
Criticism, design critics and the concept and the definition of aesthetics will be discussed within the scope of the course. The methods of criticism will be addressed and design study will be conducted with the Design Criticism Work Sheet, which is comprised of Description, Analysis, Commentary and Judgment. Also the concept of aesthetics and major theories of aesthetics as well as the place in and the impact on the design education and applications of such theories will be addressed and deliberated within the course.

TSR 505 Virtual Interior Space Applications
The objective of this course is to research the fields of application of advanced modeling techniques in virtual environment in the interior space design and to analyze the effects of the same.

TSR 506 Advertising and New Media
The objective of this course is to study the impacts of all advertising activities carried out through the means of communication of the present time on the mass, and to address and study the types, methods and techniques as well as the text/visual analyses of advertising.

TSR 507 Advanced Product Studies
The objective of the course is ensure that the students develop concepts in the fields of study of their own choosing, and the scope of the course covers the process of transformation of such developed concepts into products.   The students are expected to design a system that contains customized approaches, methodologies etc. for the process of transformation of the concepts developed thereby into products.

TSR 508 Customized Interior Space Design Studio
The objective of this course is to research and study original solution proposals for different functions and different user needs in interior space design in line with multi-dimensional and detailed researches.

TSR 510 Smart Product Design
In this course; the students will profoundly study the concept of smart product, and examine the characteristics of smart products and the impacts of the currently existing and future technologies on product design. Each student is expected to carry out minimum one smart product process and present the product that is the output of such process throughout the course.

TSR 511 Analytical Space Analysis
The analysis methods, which are devoted to the studying of the interactions of interior spaces with the other design areas in all aspects, are aimed to be studied and developed. Accordingly; advanced analysis methods will be examined on the basis of sampling works.

TSR 512 Information Design
In this course; primarily, the Information Design projects developed in various fields will be studied.   In that context, the manner of the individual, who gets lost and overwhelmed under the information overload of the present day, accesses the information requested by the same by way of the applications prepared through various branches of design will be studied. Subsequently; the students will develop an appropriate, impressive and easily perceivable project in a selected topic. The students are, hence, aimed to gain experience in developing solutions for the issues within the information design creation process.

TSR 513 Street Furniture and Product Identity
In this course; the street (urban) furniture will be described and be addressed and deliberated within the context of human-environment-product relations. Product analyses are aimed to be conducted by way of the use of various methods within the scope of the course.

TSR 514 Sustainability in Design
The concept of sustainability in design is aimed to be discussed within physical, cultural and global frameworks, and the sustainable solutions for the future are aimed to be studied and developed through an interdisciplinary approach.

TSR 515 Imaginative Design
The imaginative designs used in almost any field of communication continue being an intercultural common language of communication. The imaginative design is aimed to be studied and applied on the basis of concepts and themes by way of the use of various techniques within the framework of common concepts of different fields of design.

TSR 516 Design for Everyone
The objective of the course is to develop an approach to the product, space and environment design, which can be used by people. It is aimed that the design is developed according to the needs of a wide group of people, which will be taken into consideration through the course of design development.

TSR 517 Space and Equipment Studies
The objective of this course is to study the development and transformation of spaces, the furniture and the equipment, and to discuss the relation between the space and the equipment within the framework of the interactions of different design disciplines.

TSR 518 Visual Culture
Emphasis will be put on the change of the visual elements used currently depending on the location, time and different social layers, countries etc., and such fact will be addressed and deliberated through a multi-field approach on the basis of any type of visual material.

TSR 519 Current Approaches in Experience Design
The main objective of the course is to introduce the current theories in the field of experience design and the applications of the same, and to perform innovative applications that will allow for novel approaches through the perspectives of different design disciplines. The students will, by the end of the course, have seized the opportunity to gain the basic theoretical knowledge and to perform practical works. The content of the course is aimed to enabling the students of industrial product design, graphical design, interaction design, interior architecture, architecture and fashion design to review their former knowledge through new approaches.

TSR 520 Ethics and Social Responsibility in Design
In this course; the current social problems that arise in the national and international domain will be studied.   Preliminary researches will be conducted particularly in relation to environmental, social, political and ecological problems, and the design projects conducted on such matters will be analyzed. Subsequently; the students will develop a project on a specific topic within one of the design fields of their choosing.   It is aimed that, by way of the research conducted and the application works performed, the social responsibilities of designers will be learned and experience will be gained as ot how attention could be drawn to social issues by way of deign and how solutions could be developed.
