DEPARTMENTAL ENGLISH COURSES

Departmental English Courses for undergraduate students consist of a total of four courses as ING001, ING002, ING003 and ING004. Two courses, ING001 and ING002, include a program based on TOEFL IBT skills. ING001 is a prerequisite for ING002 and at the end of ING002, students take the actual TOEFL IBT exam. ING002 is a prerequisite for ING003 and ING004. ING003 is the course of Professional Writing Skills. ING004 is the course of Professional Presentation Skills. Students who successfully complete ING004 course succeed in completing the Departmental English Courses Program.

Undergraduate English Courses offered to undergraduate students (excluding ELL) enrolled programs whose language of instruction is English consist of a total of four courses as ING001, ING002, ING003 and ING004. The courses, ING001 and ING002 include a program based on Academic English (EAP) skills. ING 001 is a prerequisite for ING002. These two lessons cannot be taken together in the same term. If students apply with a petition, they may be exempted from these two courses with a letter grade corresponding to their TOEFL score. For details, check the Student’s Handbook. ING001 and ING 002 are prerequisites for ING003 and ING004 courses. ING003 is the course of Professional Writing Skills. ING004 is the course of Professional Presentation Skills. Students who successfully complete ING004 course succeed in completing the Departmental English Courses Program.

 

ING001

The course consists of Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking section. The Reading section focuses on how students should examine reading passages and what they should pay attention to, and how to answer such questions. The course aims to develop critical thinking and focuses on essay writing. Oxford EAP is used as material.

 

ING002

The course includes Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking sections. The Listening section consists of listening passage on academic listening extracts, academic discussions and on-campus speeches. Oxford EAP is used as material.

 

ING003

ING 003 Professional Writing Skills is a two-part course. The first part is the Academic Part in which students are to learn basic academic concepts such as plagiarism, paraphrasing and summary. The second part covers basic forms of writing required in professional life such as e-mails, CVs/resumes, business letters, cover letters, official letters, statements of purpose and report writing. The course has no midterms and final exams, evaluation is done by quizzes.

 

ING 004

ING 004 is a course aims to help students to take firm steps into academic and professional life by teaching the special language, form and methods necessary for business life such as preparing presentations, presenting a topic and participating in a job interview.  The course has no midterms and final exams, evaluation is done by quizzes.
