Undergraduate Program Preface:

TOBB ETÜ Economics undergraduate program offers a steady and balanced program to meet the theoretical and practical requirements for a modern economics education. The program aims to provide students with independent and analytical thinking skills while offering the basis to understand Turkey and other country economies.

TOBB ETÜ Economics undergraduate program offers many other advantages besides a quality education:

Flexible Curriculum: With the changes in recent years, students are provided flexibility in taking courses in the areas they are interested in and/or they want to specialize in by reducing  the number of compulsory courses in the undergraduate program and increasing the number of elective courses. In this respect, students are offered many theoretical and applied elective courses that are taught by internationally experienced and well-equipped teaching staff. 

High Scholarship Rate and High Faculty Member/Student Ratio: TOBB ETÜ Department of Economics stands out among the economics departments of other foundation universities with high scholarship rate and high student quality (10 students with full scholarship, 25 students with 50% scholarship and 5 students without scholarship in 2020) and high number of faculty members per student (1 faculty member per approximately 2.5 new coming students).

Double Major/Minor Opportunities: TOBB ETÜ offers a Double Major program that allows students who are succesful in their own departments to obtain diploma from another department and also a Minor program that enables them to gain specialization in another department. These programs, which are more flexible than many other universities, offer important opportunities to successful students. 

Cooperative Education: TOBB ETÜ prepare all students for life after graduation with the Cooperative Education Program, which provides approximately one year of work experience before they graduate.

The Cooperative Education Program enables students to determine their career plans at an early stage according to their interests, and also ensures that students are preferred primarily in the job market after graduation.

Courses in English: Within our curriculum, courses are offered in both Turkish and English. Courses without (*) or (**) marks in the Undergraduate Curriculum table below are taught in Turkish. Courses marked with (*) next to them -the majority of which are compulsory courses- are taught in English. Courses marked with (**) represent elective courses that must be taken from the Department of Economics, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and other faculties of the University. Some of these courses are offered in Turkish, while others are in English. Students can choose among them freely. Approximately 70% of the elective courses organized by the Economics department are taught in English."

Second Foreign Language: In addition to an intensive compulsory English preparatory program, each student at TOBB ETU must succeed in four courses from a second foreign language of their choice in addition to many compulsory and elective courses in order to graduate from the undergraduate program.

Some Principles Regarding Curriculum

• Faculty Elective Courses are courses offered by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (FEAS) and approved by the Department of Economics. University Elective Courses are courses offered by any department of the university and approved by the Department of Economics. At least 1 (one) of the Faculty Elective courses must be a course offered by a department within the FEAS other than the Department of Economics, and at least 1 (one) of the University Elective courses must be a course offered by a faculty other than the FEAS.
• Some courses are not eligible to be taken in accordance with the curriculum of the Department of Economics. The list of these courses is as follows: BİL 121, HUK 101, İKT 103i, İKT 106, İKT 108, İŞL 111, İŞL 112, İŞL 161, İŞL 212, İŞL 362, SUİ 101, UGI 103, UGI 105, UGI 106. The following courses have been added to these courses as of the 2022-2023 Summer semester: İŞL 364, UGİ 131, UGİ 302, UGİ 321, UGİ 364, UGİ 411. (Before the 2022-2023 Summer semester, at most one of the İŞL 364 and UGİ 411 courses could be taken. As of the 2022-2023 Summer semester, both courses have been added to the list of ineligible courses.) The students of the Department of Economics, who have failed these courses or want to repeat them, must substitute them with other Faculty elective courses.

Other Regulations

1. 4-credit İKT 103 course has been removed from the curriculum. Instead of this course, 3 credits İKT 105 course has been introduced. İKT 103 and İKT 105 are equivalent courses. Students who got a grade of FF from İKT 103 course or who want to increase the grade of İKT 103 course will take İKT 105 course. The grade of İKT 105 course will be substituted for the grade of İKT 103 course. For students who have taken both İKT 103 and İKT 105 courses, the grade of the last course taken from these courses will be counted. In the calculation of the students' semester and grade point average, the last course grade will be valid. Students who have taken both İKT 103 and İKT 105 courses will not be able to count these courses as a departmental, faculty or university elective.

2. BİL 131 course has been removed from the curriculum. Instead of BİL 131 course, İKT 110 course will be offered in which computer programs and conceptual applications used in economics are explained. BİL 131 and İKT 110 are equivalent courses. Students who got a grade of FF from BİL 131 course or want to increase the grade of BİL 131 will take İKT 110 course. The grade of BİL 131 will be replaced by the grade of İKT 110. IKT 110 course can not be counted as a department, faculty or university elective.
3. İKT 262 course has been removed from the curriculum as a compulsory department course. Faculty Elective course has been added to the curriculum instead of İKT 262. İKT 262 and Faculty Elective courses are equivalent courses. Students who got a grade of FF from İKT 262 course or who want to increase the grade of İKT 262 course will take a Faculty Elective course. The grade of the Faculty Elective course will be substituted for the grade of İKT 262 course. For students who have taken and successfully completed IKT 262, this course can be counted as a department, faculty or university elective course.
4. İKT 352 course has been removed from the curriculum as a compulsory department course. Instead of İKT 352 course, Departmental Elective course has been added to the curriculum. İKT 352 course and Departmental Elective course are equivalent courses. Students who gor a grade of FF from İKT 352 course or who want to increase the grade of İKT 352 course will take the Departmental Elective course. The grade of the Department Elective course will be substituted for the grade of İKT 352 course. For students who have taken and successfully completed IKT 352, this course will be counted as a departmental elective course.
5. İKT 105 has been determined as a prerequisite course for the İKT 106 course, which can be taken by students other than the Economics department. Students enrolled before the 2015-2016 Summer semester can take İKT 106 without the prerequisite of İKT 105 with the approval of their advisors and the Department of Economics.
6. Since İŞL 161 and İŞL 362 courses have similar contents with compulsory İKT courses, they have been added to the list of courses that are not eligible to be taken as of 01/01/2020. Those who took these courses before this date (latest 2019/20 Fall semester) will not be affected by this change and will be able to count these courses as faculty or university elective.
