INTERNATIONAL LATERAL TRANSFERS

Transfers from a higher education institution abroad to only equivalent programs of the University are possible.

Transfer Based on Academic Success Score

Academic Achievement: The student must have taken and passed 85 percent of all curriculum courses in terms of credits in the university where he/she is registered prior to the semester in which the transfer is requested, and the General Grade Point Average (GPA) of the completed courses must be at least 3.00 out of 4 or 84.40 out of 100.

Application Requirements:

  1. The academic achievement requirement defined above must be met.
  2. In this category, those who want to transfer laterally must meet the minimum scores specified in the University's "Regarding the Admission of Students from Abroad" directive, along with the academic achievement criteria, and the score requirements for exams that are considered equivalent to these.
  3. The higher education institution where the student studies abroad and the program in which the student is educated must be recognized by the Council of Higher Education as an institution authorized to grant undergraduate diplomas, and the diploma program in which the student is enrolled must be accepted by the University as equivalent to the undergraduate diploma program to which the student is applying for lateral transfer.
  4. In order to transfer laterally from a higher education institution abroad to a program in our University that requires an achievement ranking (Law, Architecture, Engineering and Medicine);

a. In the year the student starts higher education, the university he/she is registered to must be in the top four hundred percentile in at least three of the ranking institutions taken as basis by the Council of Higher Education and must meet the semester/class and achievement conditions,

b. In case of registration at a university outside the top four hundred percentile;

1) Those who completed their secondary education in Turkey must have taken the central placement exam in any case and have met the achievement ranking requirement in the relevant score type of the program that requires an achievement ranking as of the year of registration,

2) Those who completed at least the last two years of their secondary education abroad must have successfully passed at least four semesters of the diploma program they registered for, excluding the preparatory class.

  • For those enrolled in higher education institutions abroad, the ranking institutions that will be accepted for lateral transfer are Times Higher Education (THE), QS World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), CWTS Leiden Ranking.

Applications

Applications are accepted on the dates announced in the academic calendar. Announcements for current application periods will be published at https://www.etu.edu.tr/en/ogrenci-isleri. It is important to follow current announcements for application details.

Documents Required for Application

  1. Student Certificate received from the registered university within the last two months
  2. Official transcript to be obtained from the registered university
  3. A certified document showing the curriculum and course content of the department in the registered university
  4. ÖSYS Scorecard (document showing the score and success rank for the relevant exam)
  5. ÖSYS Placement Certificate or result document related to exams whose equivalence is accepted

The rules regarding the scores in the Student Selection and Placement Exams conducted by the Student Selection and Placement Center are determined as follows according to the principles announced by the Council of Higher Education:

- They must meet the success ranking condition determined for the programs included in the relevant year's ÖSYS Guides (Medicine, Law, Engineering, Architecture).

- For programs where success ranking is not required, the central placement score received by the student in the score type valid for the diploma program he/she wants to pass as of the year he/she takes the central exam must be equal to or higher than the lowest base score of the diploma programs of other universities in the country equivalent to the diploma program he/she wants to pass.

- Those who have equivalent exam scores from the Council of Higher Education must also meet the conditions specified above.

  1. Approved document indicating disciplinary status (if disciplinary status is stated on student certificate or transcript, no additional document is required.)
  2. English Language Proficiency Determination Certificate specified in Article 6 of the Directive on English Preparatory Program Education-Teaching Principles (Not required for transfer to Turkish programs.)
  3. Photocopy of ID
  4. Application Fee Bank Receipt (A separate application fee is paid for each program applied for. The application fee will be included in current announcements. The statement must include the T.R. ID number and name, as well as the name of the program applied for.) (Application fee is non-refundable)

Additional Documents Related to Abroad

  1. For lateral transfer applications from higher education institutions abroad, a document indicating that the institution registered is recognized by YÖK and a passport photocopy (for students applying from abroad except TRNC)
  2. An official letter stating the situation for candidates who return to the country due to the end of their mother or father's state duty abroad or permanent return if they are a worker from higher education institutions abroad
  3. If they have completed high school abroad, a notarized Turkish translation of their high school diploma and a High School Diploma Equivalency Certificate to be obtained from the Provincial Directorate of National Education
  • If you are applying to more than one department, you must fill out a separate form and pay a separate fee for each department.
