Department of Political Science and International Relations Will Start to Accept Students in 2016

Objective: Graduates with Wide Horizons with Quality Academic Staff

Traditionally, it is assumed that International Relations Departments focus on foreign policies of states and Political Science Departments concentrate on the internal policies of states. However, in a world where the process of globalization has become increasingly insignificant in separating the policy-making process from domestic and foreign policy, it is clear that domestic policy strongly influences foreign policy. Therefore, studying the interaction of these two fields can offer a much wider perspective.

Starting from this perspective, TOBB ETU International Relations Department which started to take students in the academic year of 2005-2006 and TOBB ETU Political Science Department which started to take students in the academic year of 2012-2013 got united and it was renamed as the Department of Political Science and International Relations in the 2016-2017 academic year. A new curriculum has been established thus, it aims to provide a quality education with an academic staff with a much broader and rich expertise. Students in this department is expected to receive education about sub-state and parastatal actors of the internal structure of Turkey and a comparison of countries in the electorate and public behavior, policy-making and implementation process and the fundamental dynamics of global politics. In this context, it is aimed that students will be able to recognize the world effectively by taking advantage of many disciplines in social sciences. In addition to university education, it is possible for students to gain experience through cooperative education in research institutions, embassies, international lobbying organizations, ministries and think tanks in Turkey and abroad.

It is possible to say that the job opportunities of the graduates of Political Science and International Relations are quite wide. Graduates work in different fields such as public institutions, international organizations, private sector and academic world can have a career. Some of the workplace examples are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry for EU Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, National Intelligence Organization, Presidency of Turks Abroad and Related Communities, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, General Directorate of Migration Management, They can continue their careers at think thanks, public opinion research companies, non-governmental organizations and private foreign trade companies, banks and universities. Graduates also have the opportunity to work in international organizations such as NATO, United Nations, IMF, World Bank and European Union.

Political Science and International Relations Department is the opening window of TOBB ETÜ to the world with its wide academic staff, high student quality, academic curriculum in international standards, second foreign language education and cooperative education opportunities both at home and abroad.
